Hire a car with a tow bar
  1. Will I have to put down a deposit? Yes. Our deposit amounts vary in accordance to the value of the vehicle you hire. Vans: £500. Isuzus, Land Rover Defenders, Range Rover Evoques, Land Rover Discoverys and Land Rover Discovery Sports: £1,000. Full size Range Rovers and Range Rover Sports: £2,000.
  2. What are your vehicle excesses and how much do you take if I damage a vehicle? The excess on our vans is £500, the excess on our full size Range Rovers and Range Rover Sports and all other models carry an excess of £1,000. The vehicle deposits correspond to the excess amount so we will hold this amount until we have gained a damage estimate from our approved Bodyshop. If the repairs cost less than the amount we are holding, we will refund the difference back to you. If the repairs cost more than the vehicle’s excess then you are not liable to pay any more unless you have breached our terms and conditions.
  3. How does your pricing work? Our advertised prices are subject to VAT and insurance due to the type of vehicles we hire. For inclusive rates please get in touch where we will be happy to provide you with a quote.
  4. What documents do you require to hire me a vehicle? We need to see your driving licence, national insurance number and two recent proofs of address (council tax bill, utility bill, polling card etc.). For non-UK nationals we will also need to see your passport.
  5. How does your insurance work? Most people choose to insure our vehicles themselves, which is why we don’t include insurance costs in our rates, however if you would prefer to drive on our insurance we can offer this for £20 + VAT per day and £90 + VAT per week. If your business is a film/TV production company or handles celebrities or sports personalities, our insurance does not cover you so you will need to add our vehicle to your fleet insurance.
  6. I want to tow something with one of your cars. Is this allowed? Of course. We supply a wide variety of customers with suitable 4x4s to tow anything from boats, cars, generators and livestock trailers. Please note that it is a requirement from us that the goods you are towing are insured. Our insurance only covers the vehicle.
  7. Do you have vehicles with tachographs fitted? Yes, we have Defenders, Discoverys and Isuzus with tachographs fitted. We recommend that you are up to date with towing legislation for work and business use.
  8. Are your vehicles tracked? For insurance and security purposes, our Land Rover and Range Rover products are tracked.
  9. I’m interested in long term hire, can you help? Absolutely. We supply a wide variety of businesses and private users with long term hire of 4×4 vehicles. Please get in touch with your requirements and we will put together a price plan for you.
  10. How many free miles do I get? Our vans come with unlimited mileage and all other models come with 150 free miles per day or 1000 per week. The only exception to this is our Land Rover Defender Station Wagons, which carry a mileage limit of 100 per day. If you go over, we charge excess mileage at £0.33 + VAT. These mileage caps apply only to short term hires, for long term hire mileage caps please get in touch.
  11. Can I add an additional driver? Yes. This is a free service if you choose to insure the vehicle yourself. If you are on our insurance the cost is £5 + VAT per day.
  1. What are your age restrictions? All drivers must be aged 25 and over. For our full size Range Rovers you need to be aged 30 and over.
  2. What happens if I break down? All our vehicles are covered by their manufacturer’s breakdown assistance scheme and we’ll give you their contact details at the start of your hire. As long as the breakdown was not down to driver error, you won’t be liable for any charges. Driver error breakdown includes engine damage resulting from driving in the wrong gear, towing in excess of the permitted vehicle capacity or putting the wrong fuel in the vehicle.
  3. Can I take one of your vehicles abroad? Yes. Please let us know in advance if this is the case and we will provide written permission. We’ll also need to see your driving licence in advance so that we can gain authorisation from our insurance provider. Unfortunately our Land Rover Defenders are not authorised to be taken abroad. The hirer will be responsible for any additional equipment required (for example first aid kits and warning triangles).
  4. Can I leave my car with you while I’m hiring? Yes, however please let us know in advance just in case there isn’t an available space. All vehicles are left at the owner’s risk.
  5. When can I collect and return my hire car? You can collect and return your hire car during our office hours (Mon – Fri 0830 – 1730). Weekend collections and returns can be arranged by appointment. Unfortunately due to security reasons, we cannot accept out of hours returns.
  6. Can you deliver and collect the hire car? Yes. We offer a UK wide delivery and collection service. If you would like your hire vehicle delivered or collection, please get in touch for a price.
  7. Are there any other charges I need to be aware of? If the vehicle is returned excessively dirty on the interior (excessive mud in the carpets and seats, excessive dog hair etc.) or there is evidence of smoking, we will have to charge £48 for an intensive valet to restore the vehicle to a rentable condition. We do not charge administration fees if you get a traffic endorsement or penalty notice.
  8. My company wants to hire from you regularly. Can we open an account? Yes. Please contact us for further information. A business account with Holmbush Hire has several benefits and on demand vehicle rental can often prove more cost effective than ownership.
  9. How can I be sure you won’t charge me for damage that was already on the vehicle when I collected it? Unfortunately due to a small minority of car rental companies, everyone has heard of car hire firms trying to charge customers for damage that was already there. We find that the best way to overcome this is for our customers to take photos or videos of the vehicle prior to it going on hire so that there is clear evidence of the vehicle’s condition. If there is any damage on the vehicle that is outside of our wear and tear parameters, we will note this on the hire documents.
