Hire a car with a tow bar
  1. Will I have to pay a deposit? Yes. Our deposit amounts vary in accordance to the value of the vehicle you hire and the probable cost of repair in the event of damage. Vans: £500. Isuzus, Land Rover Defenders, Range Rover Evoques, Land Rover Discoverys and Land Rover Discovery Sports: £1,000. Full size Range Rovers and Range Rover Sports: £2,000.
  2. What are your vehicle excesses and how much do you take if I damage a vehicle? The excess on our vans is £500, the excess on for Defender and Discovery is £1,000 and full size Range Rovers and Range Rover Sports carry an excess of £2,000. The vehicle deposits correspond to the excess amount so we will hold this amount until we have gained a damage estimate from our approved Bodyshop. If the repairs cost less than the amount we are holding, we will refund the difference back to you. If the repairs cost more than the vehicle’s excess then you are not liable to pay any more unless you have breached our terms and conditions.
  3. How does your pricing work? Our rates include insurance and VAT. The only extras you’ll pay are for excess mileage. We offer insurance and VAT exclusive rates to businesses who wish to use a certified fleet insurance policy.
  4. What documents do you require to hire me a vehicle? We need to see your driving licence and DVLA driving licence check code. A check code can be generated by visiting the GOV.uk portal. However, we are happy to help you with this when you collect your vehicle. If you wish for us to walk through the code generation process, please have your national insurance number to hand. In addition, we require two recent proofs of address (council tax bill, utility bill, polling card etc.). For non-UK nationals we will also need to see your passport.
  5. How does your insurance work? Fully comprehensive insurance is included in your quote, unless you have specified that you wish to insure the vehicle yourself, in which case we will provide you with an insurance exclusive quote. Please read fig.2 for information on our insurance excesses. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer insurance cover to Film/Television production companies, celebrities or sports personalities, our insurance does not cover you. Clients of this nature are asked to provide their own fleet insurance.
  6. I want to tow something with one of your vehicles. Is this allowed? Of course. We supply a wide variety of customers with suitable 4x4s to tow anything from boats, cars, generators and livestock trailers. Please note that it is a requirement from us that the goods you are towing are adequately insured. Our insurance only covers the vehicle. Please contact us with specific towing queries.
  7. Do you have vehicles with tachographs fitted? Yes, we have Defenders, Discoverys and Isuzus with tachographs fitted. We recommend that you are up to date with towing legislation for work and business use.
  8. Are your vehicles tracked? For insurance and security purposes, our vehicles are tracked. Tracking Data is accessed in conjunction with current GDPR laws.
  9. I’m interested in long term hire, can you help? Absolutely. We supply a wide variety of businesses and private users with long term hire of 4×4 vehicles. Please get in touch with your requirements and we will put together a price plan for you.
  10. How many free miles do I get? All vehicles come with 150 free miles per day or 1000 per week. The only exception to this is our Land Rover Defender Station Wagons, which carry a mileage limit of 100 per day. If you go over, we charge excess mileage at £0.33 + VAT. These mileage caps apply only to short term hires, for long term hire mileage caps please get in touch.
  1. Can I add an additional driver? Yes. This is a free service if you choose to insure the vehicle yourself. If you are on our insurance the cost is £5 + VAT per day.
  2. What are your age restrictions? All drivers must be aged 25 and over. For our full size Range Rovers you need to be aged 30 and over.
  3. What happens if I break down? All our vehicles are covered by their manufacturer’s breakdown assistance scheme and we’ll give you their contact details at the start of your hire. As long as the breakdown was not down to driver error, you won’t be liable for any charges. Driver error breakdown includes engine damage resulting from driving in the wrong gear, towing in excess of the permitted vehicle capacity or putting the wrong fuel in the vehicle.
  4. Can I take one of your vehicles abroad? Yes. Please let us know in advance if this is the case and we will provide written permission. We’ll also need to see your driving licence in advance so that we can gain authorisation from our insurance provider. Unfortunately our Land Rover Defenders and vans are not authorised to be taken abroad. The hirer will be responsible for any additional equipment required (for example first aid kits and warning triangles). A £25 one-off fee will apply to all European hires due to charges imposed by the DVLA for producing the correct documentation to take abroad.
  5. Can I leave my car with you while I’m hiring? Yes, however please let us know in advance just in case there isn’t an available space. All vehicles are left at the owner’s risk.
  6. When can I collect and return my hire car? You can collect and return your hire car during our office hours (Mon – Fri 0830 – 1730). Weekend collections and returns can be arranged by appointment. Unfortunately for security reasons, we cannot accept out of hours returns.
  7. Can you deliver and collect the hire car? Yes. We offer a UK wide delivery and collection service for business account customers. If you would like your hire vehicle delivered or collected, please get in touch for a price.
  8. Are there any other charges I need to be aware of? If the vehicle is returned excessively dirty on the interior (excessive mud in the carpets and seats, excessive dog hair etc.) or there is evidence of smoking, we will have to charge £48 for an intensive valet to restore the vehicle to a rentable condition. We do not charge administration fees if you get a traffic endorsement or penalty notice.
  9. My company wants to hire from you regularly. Can we open an account? Yes. Please contact us for further information. A business account with Holmbush Hire has several benefits and on demand vehicle rental can often prove more cost effective than ownership.
  10. How can I be sure you won’t charge me for damage that was already on the vehicle when I collected it? We have been made aware of a small number of well known rental companies issuing retrospective and spurious charges for damage to hire vehicles which existed but was unchecked at the time of on hire. At Holmbush, we take photographs and/or videos of our vehicles during the handover process  at on hire, we encourage our clients to do the same. At off hire check in, if damage is noted, we refer to the photos taken in the presence of our clients in order to ascertain that the damage is new/additional and, therefore, chargeable. For the avoidance of any doubt, any damage existing at on hire which is outside of our fair wear and tear parameters, will be noted this on your hire documents.
